Of Course You Can Sing The National Anthem! Can't You?

Sitting exhaustedly in the kitchen whilst the contents of the pots on the hot plates boiled away furiously, I decided to scroll through Instagram to see what was new. I prep our meals for the week on weekends, Saturday mostly, but I've got an engagement in church on Saturday which is why I'm doing it on a Friday.

Well, I saw a new post on Instablog about two ambassadorial candidates, one who could not sing the National Anthem and another who could not recite the National Pledge; I proceeded to listen to the video and was embarrassed. "See? See who they want to make Ambassadors! People who do not even know what their duty or pledge to their county is!", the self righteous part of me thought but then, whilst I was yet thinking this, it occured to me to actually sing the National Anthem myself. Infact, I'll urge you right now to try to sing it off the top of your head. Have you tried it? Did you get to the end?
I tried to sing it to myself and started with, "Arise O Compatriots, Nigeria's call obey! To serve our father's land, with Love and Strength and ....", Fair? No, no, it couldn't be fair- it's not even correct english to say that, it had to be Faith....., ".... Faith, The labour of our heroes past, shall never be in vain, to serve with heart and might, one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity". Infact, in writing this now, I am able to complete that last paragraph- it had been tough to sing it, I wasn't sure of myself.

Turns out I was no better than the lady ambassadorial candidate who had mumbled quite a few times- I probably would have bungled it myself if I had been called upon impromptu to sing the anthem- if I knew or even felt it "could" come up, I'd be prepared for it. Which leads me back to life really, we judge people immediately without really realising that we would probably do same or worse if presented with the same situation as they.

Oh well, were you able to sing the Anthem correctly? Compare with the text in image below..... Any good? Lol! Find video below too...

Later my friends!
Love always,
