I Know Your Name! It's Mama!

My son now knows my name!!!! ***doing the holy twerk (lol)****
So I've been teaching my son to pronounce words and to associate them with their meanings. So far, he's able to say a few words: baby, cartoon, mummy, daddy, chocolate, bye-bye, hello, bia ("come" in igbo language), were ("take" in igbo language), Stop it, Thank you  and that's really about it. He knows to call DH "daddy" and whenever he wants to see him, he goes to my laptop, points to it and says, "Daddy!". The thing is, he knew to pronounce the words, "daddy" and "mummy" but he hadn't begun using it as a name or in response to his name being called.

Last week, I'd strapped him into his high chair whilst I washed up in the kitchen and, perhaps bored and feeling too alone sitting there, he began to reach out to grab my blouse whilst I kept dodging his reach and then he said, "Mama!". That was the first time he had directed the name, of his own volition, to me. That was just last week and by this week, this development has just progressed in leaps! He now responds to your call by calling your name! So now, if he's in the living room watching cartoons and I call him from the room, he responds "Mama!" and comes to me! I'm soooo excittteddd! I've literally spent Monday till today calling him from different rooms just to hear him call my name, I know I'm such a mess but it's music to my ears! *grinning from ear to ear* Then he also calls "Mama" to get my attention especially if he wants me to do something for him.

I know some of you parents with grown kids or kids who have long passed this stage are like, "What's the big deal madam?", but, it is a big deal to me, I'm exhilarated!!! Also, it's best I put this down here so I can look back and compare notes when other kids come. My son is 18months old now, that's a year and a half and I know that some kids start saying "Mama" at either a year old or some even at two years old- every child's development is different but, I was waiting for this :) .

I also think it helps to have children interact with other children. I say this because, although my son had been saying "mommy" and "daddy", I feel like since he started associating with the other children in our church and since we've started having playdates, he might have observed the older children directing their own calls of "mommy" to their mothers..... Just a thought but I'll hold it for now. I just thought I quickly share this, hope you're having a great week!

To all the mums out there who can relate to this post, YOU are awesome amazing! High-five!! And to those who are TTC (Trying To Conceive), expectant and believing God for their own child, may your heart's desires come to a fruition and you shall have your own child call you "Mama" sooner than later in Jesus name. Amen. A bigger HIGH FIVE to YOU!!!

Love Always,
